Hi guys,

I would like to introduce a free application I wrote and get your feedback on it.

It's a flash-based application that runs directly from your web browser, and lets you control a virtual Salsa/Merengue band. You can enable or disable each of the instruments, control the musical pattern that the play, watch some basic dancing videos synchronized with the music, and change the tempo and the key of the music.

You can see it online here: w. w. w.SalsaBeatMachine.org

I hope you like it !

Uri

----EDITED to remove link. We have a no commercial links policy but as this is "donationware" it should be okay.

Very cool!

I like it! It helps with practicing counting and identifying the effects of different instruments. Does it only do that same loop of music though? If it did several different songs, especially popular songs and decomposed the layers of music, that would probably be an app I would be happy to purchase.

Hi Aieee, thank you for your feedback!
It's possible to switch between melodies and percussion instrument patterns, just click on the "+" button for the relevant instrument, for example, the "+" button near the piano icon...

Try it and let me know what you think

That would cause copyright conflicts. Although, a few original compositions could enhance the product as you have suggested (this is not to say that it isn't good just as it is).

Actually, the composer Alex Wilson had contact me in the past and asked that I include a few musical patterns from his song "Ain't No Body" in the software...

So being done right, this could be actually an interest of the artists and promote their music. If there is anybody here with a good understanding of the copyright laws for online music and how they work, I'd love to know....

congrats

Hi Uri, congratulations, this is a really good tool to train the rhythm. Just forwarded the link to a german dance forum! But, please allow one question: what are the red lights for? They are not in time with the instructor´s voice.

wr

Thank you opendoor !

The right lights should indicate the rhythm, and they should be in time with the instructor's voice... In your computer, are they late or what ?

Re: red lights on

T..are they late or what ?

Ja, but actually off-beat (Safari on Intel Duo, Mac SnowLep) that I wondered what they should mean. Found that the first two lights are synchrone with the first two eighth of the 2/3 clave and the last with the open right hand tone of the conga....

:)

Well, if the last one synchronizes with the 2nd open right tone of the conga then they ought to be about half beat late, am I right?

Could you try the "piano keyboard" mode? It uses the same mechanism to synchronize the display with the sound, does it look like it's late after the music too?
