Headcount

Administrators and moderators:

Don't keep us in darkness; we want to know how many "active" members are on the Dance Forums.

An active member can be defined as:

1) Has two or more posts.

2) Has been registered at DF for longer than one week.

3) Logs in one or more times every four months.

4) Posts one or more times per twelve months.

This leaves IP address and user name related issues uncovered, but let us start with some number.

The active members' count and its dynamics are as important as total posts' count. My estimate is, there are 200 active members.

the only reason that feature was removed was because it seemed to be a place through which we were getting hacked/spammed or some other opportunistic sort of abuse was transpiring....IIRC

It should be possible to release the active members' count from time to time, without publicizing the list of members.

oooo like our very own census!!!

The census form asks for "people who live & sleep at this address." From my perspective that would be you, and Fascination, and maybe etp777? Plus anyone who is a whiz at finding long-lost threads.

I don't live & sleep at DF but if Facebook had a census I'd be in trouble.;)

Those who don't keep watch on own work are deemed to fail.

Just because they don't make the info public, it doesn't mean that the admins are unaware of the numbers. And do they really make a difference to me if I don't plan to pay for an advertisement here? I'm not going to say, "I enjoyed visiting DF yesterday, but now that I know there are only 9 active members instead of 10, I'm not coming back!"

Considering my farm at facebook not only has a house for me but a guest house for my mom and sis, a trailer for my dad, and a cabin for my best friend, I might actually be more of a facebook citizen than a U.S. one. :)

Still important

I disagree. Headcount on a web forum is as important as number of participants in a competition or a dance party, balance on a bank account, length of a road, population of a city.

The advertisers can do they own count, or they will hire somebody to do the count. I can do mine as well, but I have to work maybe half a day.

I can assure you that we are not even remotely close to being doomed to fail...but your concern for us is laudable...and I have no problem with us occasionally trying to remember to post such a thing...please do remember however, that plenty of unpaid hard work is going on behind the scenes

i do spend alot of time here...think that is fairly obvious...and the variety of persons lurking, participating occasionally, participating frequently, and the omnipresent, are all rather impressive ...and vary depending upon time of day...but again, I have no issue with us occasionally throwing out some stats for those who, for whatever reason, need them....I am not big on anything invlovling technology or numbers but I imagine we can do something to be of service in that regard...I will say that TC has done a wonderful job constantly noting the many and varied persons who have hit various milestones in their posting...and that would be one measure of activity

wooh has logged over 3000 posts on this forum...so she has a sense of it's depth...

I would say my knowledge of where the "block user" link can be found is a better indicator my sense of DF's depth. :) Anyone can post 3000 musings, it takes a true love of your family to sit the crazy uncle in another room where you don't have to listen to him ramble and you can still enjoy the family gathering instead of skipping it all together.
