BTW - Swan is NOT a professional (heck, not even an amateur!) web designer - she can barely maneuver around it. So please be kind in giving her feedback on how to improve her website :)

Swan:

You've actually done quite a respectable job with the Web site. It's obviously based on a template, but many good Web sites are.

I only have a few of suggestions:

  • When have have two very similar photos right next to each other, you should leave some space between them. The exterior photos of your studio on the Contact Us page are an example. The row of three photos is a little confusing to the eye. Another example are the two, dark interior photos on the Classes and Parties page. If you can't easily add the space in the template, you could instead edit the photos in a Photoshop-like program to add borders to the photos themselves.
  • The label for the Upcoming Events page might lead some viewers to expect to find the studio calendar there (the one that's actually on the Classes and Parties page). Consider renaming the Upcoming Events page to something like Special Events.
  • If you know (or can find out) how, change the file names to match the links that go to them. For example, the file name of the About Us page could be about_us.html rather than biography.html. Likewise, the Classes and Parties page should be something like classes_parties.html instead of discography.html.
  • Finally (and you probably already know this, but it's a common mistake), since you've listed an email address on the Web page, make absolutely certain that someone is checking that email at least once a day, so that any inquiries sent to it are answered within 24 hours.
Good luck!

I made some of the changes. Still haven't figured out how to change the actual link page. I added a photo gallery. Too bad my camera wasn't good & the photos were blurry (will try to take some more tomorrow!) But you must check it out! Domenico & Gioia were in our studio taking coaching lessons with Catia Vanone! How cool is that!!!

IMPORTANT SUGGESTION: Address and phone number need to be PROMINENTLY displayed on the front page, NOT just on the contact page. I didn't see it anywhere on there, and it is one of the first things a potential customer would want to know.

I see that you have a map on your "Contact Us" page...but I'm not sure that would be obvious to someone casually perusing your site. If you can put in a link to directions, I would do so. Are you accessible by BART? If so, include that.

Another thing someone who stumbled across your site would want to know is PRICE. You can keep the price of privates secret if you are afraid of scaring away newcomers, but I would put the price for group classes. (I only saw the price for "Line Dances." Not quite sure what that is, btw. You mean like the Electric Slide?)

All in all, much better than a lot of studio Web sites. I've seen some that are such a jumble that I didn't even try to navigate around them.

Great suggestions! I will go update our home page to put the address! Not as easy...This template I chose is not the best, but we like the color scheme :)

Keep those suggestions coming! Some day, we'll invest to hire someone professional to do this right!

Congratulations Swan for being studio owner! Nice website job too.

I was lemming about this nice spacious floor - 8000 sqft!!! so great for ballroom practicing!!! Hope you are in my area!

If possible, put google map link to studio address?

Yes . . . but a new client not familiar with ballroom practice probably wouldn't know the difference.

Just wanted to point out how it might be taken. (Perhaps should have included a smiley . . .)

Perhaps it would be better to have it as a link: "Floor fee specials! Independent instructors, click here" or something like that.

The facility is 8000+ sqft. The floor is 3000+sqft.
