how are your lessons going? thread II

Am irreparably shy, like several of you, but not sure my teacher is dealing with it the right way...for the past two months or so every class there's been, not a simple "Make me believe it!", but a five- to ten-minute lecture on hitting it every single time we practice, etc. And I'm not getting a whole lot else from her to work on, technique-wise. I think sometimes I am able to not be shy, but not usually when I'm thinking about it so hard. It just feels like WAY too much pressure. It feels like she's pounding me down, not giving me space to actually deliver what she's asking me to do.

Am beginning to think something needs to change or else we need to switch coaches.

Progress... first lesson with a new concept in ages... a little more external/presentational focused than I would have like and not really a unified/comprehensive approach, but should be a great topic to explore for several months.

I had my final coaching last night with Steven Knight. Went OK (Not my best, But will be great by the Showcase on the 13th). Now it will be 2 weeks of just going through the routine with Sunshine.

Sounds great Neilsene. Not perfect, but progress is progress. :)

No lesson today, and had to cancel out of formation practice to do final walkthrough on house, but tomorrow have coaching, private, group and formation practice lined up. Will be a long day, but should be good.

Group class turned into double lesson the other night (gotta love it when that happens). Coach made my shape waaaaay bigger, I feel like if I pick up my foot behind me, I'll hit the back of my head! Sure looks nice though.......just not comfortable yet!!

Had a mixed night, some dances went really well and others the timing was completely incorrect :-( no consistency, but still had fun.

Another frustrating lesson last night working on our showcase number. To put it bluntly, I sucked. My timing was off, the body didn't want to work, etc. The bright side is that I had a fairly good lesson Monday so, I know I CAN do it, if only the brain and body would co-operate. Well, I guess better to have this happen in a lesson than on stage. ;)

Instead of working on Bolero as planned, I asked a question that lead into a lot of work on generating energy. Ended up being very productive. Tonight, Standard, but now the showcase is over I have no idea what we're working on.
