The UGLIEST costumes you've ever seen!

Peeps, I know this is a thread about "ugly costumes," but to me, the only thing ugly on here is people's attitudes.

I guess I was brought up VERY differently, but I would be deeply ashamed to have said some of the things that have been stated over the last few posts.

Do they need to be posted on line for everyone to see?

Well, CCP take thousands and thousands of photos, just to capture the dancers at their best moments. Inevitably you get not-so-good moments in there. He's already unbelievably generous in posting and sharing those photos free of charge, I think it would be very unreasonable and incredibly taxing on his time to require him to censor his photos on top of that (also, then you get into the what-should-or-should-not-be-censored question).
But if you want to do the censoring, and email him the names of the photos that you think should be taken down, I'm sure he'll be happy to oblige.

Please, don't start.

Please feel free to just put me on your ignore list (this function is in your User CP) and NOT click through to any CCP links. Thanks!

The dancer in question has seen the photos and made one of CCP's photos her FB profile photo. (I think the photo she chose is gorgeous and is one of my favorites of her too!) Obviously, if she wanted any or all photos of her taken down, they would be taken down. She is a FB friend of both of us.

I think it is fair to say that not everyone on this forum or in the dance world has the same standards, which is fine. You will note that some of CCP's galleries--e.g.,USA Dance Nationals 2008--have quite a few thank you notes from dancers pictured in the gallery. If the dancers are happy, we're happy. Period.

CCM, I can't tell if your message was directed at me or the numerous people who made comments about the content of the website. If it was at me, I didn't and don't go to your husband's website, I only looked at the photo posted here in this thread and made a comment about what someone else posted about that photo.

I will assume that you were addressing the other people who posted before me who were speaking about the perspective of the photo that someone posted in this thread (and apparently more photos other than this one).

I don't think that anyone was trying to make fun of CCP's photos... At least I was not when I made the comment about butt shots... I didn't get the impression that and123's comment was mean spirited either... It definitely came across to me as goodnatured and joking.

Indeed, CCP has gotten some epic pix of me with my skirt up but that is part of the game when you are wearing a short skirt w a lot of movement and are spinning a lot.... It's like the "funny face" pix... Those are inevitable and CCP has gotten some pretty epic face shots too.

I for one love CCP's photos and appreciate his generosity in posting these pix free of cost to the dancers so we don't feel like we have to "steal" them. I have used a CCP pic for my profile pic numerous times.

However, I do think that "butt shots" are an inevitable part of CCP's hobby as dance photographer... It happens, but we might as well laugh.

I also liked this thread and didn't see too much mean-spiritedness in the posts (except for a few). I don't see anything wrong with objectively stating why something isn't to your personal taste (e.g. This dress would have been better IMO without the stuffed fox on her shoulder which doesn't seem to add to the dress or the dancing), just so long as you are not personally attacking the dancer. But I guess that is a fine line that is easy to cross... Or maybe I was brought up to be a thug?

Sorry for the hijack!! I just wanted to explain my comment bc I felt bad that it might have come across as mean :(

dittoes.... I've seen more bra parts, safety-pinned-in-place dresses, control top pantyhose, lack of appropriate undergarments, boob spillage, and massive wedgies at collegiate comps than I ever wanted. It's kinda fun to see the same vintage costumes recycled over the years. I'd rather see that than dancers attempting to use cocktail dresses or prom dresses that simply aren't made to be danced in.

My team has several vintage dresses that get passed down every year. This includes two marabou dresses (although only one has seen competition recently). They're wonderfully outdated :D

We also had a large number of more modern dresses donated to us, and those change hands every few semesters as well. My mom can now identify new team members she's never met, because she knows all the team dresses!

Some of them are quite awful, though. The one I (still!) use for Rhythm and Latin is pretty horrific. I'm disappointed it hasn't been mentioned on this thread yet!

ETA: I feel like there's a sort of "ballroom ugly," where dresses that are hideously garish and strange just manage to look awesome in ballroom-coocoo-land. Blinding neon colors, for example. It's just part of the fun of ballroom, at least for me.

I was watching a video from cali open & there was a zebra print dress( more like bodysuit) that had long white fringe at random spots on the dress..it was hideous...looked like a spider web or white spaghetti noodles...

I'm not sure if this is off topic or not but I found this a rather perplexing post so I thought maybe you could explain? Why do you wear it if you find it horrific?

Obviously budget is always a concern with students but plenty of college teams dont have costumes floating around and they get by with dancewear or store bought fare...wouldn't wearing something you think is ugly affect your performance?
