Teaching Musicality to tango dancers

> making use of visuals or printed materials, how much you teach verbally
> vs. handouts to be read later, etc.

You cannot be serious. You give tango dance students written handouts??
I go one further. I put my class notes online. I have this idea that it helps reinforce concepts.

Boy, you must think I'm the Anti-Christ now.

Wait a minute. I thought I was David.

:bouncy:

The TRUTH IS OUT!

Dave Bailey and Dchester are one in the same! That's why DB doesn't have a photo up!

Now all we have to do is figure out which side of the pond this tango-god lives at....

I'm actually several other posters too... just the ones who's posts I admire though.... only those.. no one else.... won't name names cause then we.. uh I mean, I, won't be anonymous anymore....

Hey as long as you are clarifying for me (and this thread has already been derailed anyway ) how does one know in the basic Chacarera whether the full circle before the individual "showing off" part will be 6 or 8 counts?

sorry for the NO spanish. I didn't write it down as the actual terms, I wrote my translation of what happened for those terms.

One doesn't -that is part of the charm...:bouncy: (i had to try this smiley ...)
Well, if one is lucky/has a good ear the "halfway point" of the big circle is marked by the music (which then leads to mad scrambling to manage the turn :) ), else you just get surprised by the start of the "showing off" part - that is always clearly marked, and you stop, and more or less gracefully pretend that you wanted to be where you are, and ooze to where you really want to be - and because the big circles for chacarera on 6 has to be smaller anyway it is usually not that bad - and the next round you know what to expect. My teacher thought that non-argentineans take chacarera too seriously because we learn it from professional performers and not folk dancers, and if something goes wrong you just laugh and fix it in the next pass.

Gssh

Great.. so I've been doing it right all along.. what with the oozing and everything....

I use oozing in tango too, although it doesn't work as well for me in milonga.
