I have found that I'm not really good at teaching a group class. I just don't do well presenting things in front of groups, no matter what the subject matter. however, I have found I'm fairly good with individual coaching, especially answering questions and demonstrating something.

That's a good point, davedove. When I wrote this article, I was thinking about teachers who teach more formally via classes. But certainly you can still be a good teacher in other contexts without some of these specific elements. I know a few teachers who feel the same way that you do and enjoy teaching private lessons but rarely teach classes. My assistant in class is also excellent at working with people one-on-one and supporting the learning environment in other ways even though he says he could never teach a class on his own. The (dance) world needs all types of teachers.
