Does anybody know what kind of feathers are used on ballroom dresses, where one can get them, and how to apply them on a dress? Here is an example of a dress with feathers.

The dress pictured has ostrich feathers on it. These are ususally purchased as fringe which is separated by hand and glued onto the dress in whatever pattern (or lack thereof) the designer chooses.

There are many sources of feathers online. Try inputting 'ostrich feathers' in your favorite search engine.

I have also ordered custom-dyed feathers from ostrichesonline and it worked out quite well. I sent them a sample of my fabric, and they did the dyeing and the color match was quite good -- it was matched to a very odd/unique color of soft of pewetery-grey.

Ok. Now I know where I can get feathers. But how do I appy them? What kind of glues are used?

You can use the same glue for feathers as for rhinestones, but you could also try to find something that says it is good for gluing porous materials (like fabric, lace, or feathers) onto fabric.
